Author Luis Alberto Urrea

This week on 30 Minutes we’re going to continue with part 2 of a panel from the Pima County Public Library/ Nuestras Raices Presentation Stage from the 2017 Tucson Festival of Books entitled Timeless Fiction without Boundaries moderated by Dominique Calza with authors Luis Alberto Urrea and Álvaro Enrigue. This is part 2 of a 2 part series.

Luis Alberto Urrea is a Tucson Festival of Books favorite. Luis Alberto Urrea is a prolific and acclaimed writer who uses his dual-culture life experiences to explore greater themes of love, loss and triumph. A 2005 Pulitzer Prize finalist for nonfiction and member of the Latino Literature Hall of Fame, Urrea is the critically acclaimed and best-selling author of 16 books — winning numerous awards for his poetry, fiction and essays. Born in Tijuana to a Mexican father and American mother, Urrea is most recognized as a border writer, though he says, “I am more interested in bridges, not borders.” His new book, “House of Broken Angles,” will release on the 10th annual festival weekend.

Álvaro Enrigue  is the award-winning author of four novels and two books of short stories. He was born in Mexico City and lives in New York City. His 2016 novel Sudden Death—his first translated into English—was awarded the prestigious Herralde Prize in Spain, the Elena Poniatowska International Novel Award in Mexico, and the Barcelona Prize for Fiction, and has been translated into many languages.

Recorded and produced by Amanda Shauger.
