Annie Sykes spoke about NAACP Tucson’s upcoming 100th Annual Freedom Fund Dinner, which will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Desert Diamond Casino. Anny Sykes is on the NAACP Tucson’s Executive Committee and Freedom Fund Gala Committee. The Tucson chapter was founded 10 years after the national chapter

The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.​ The vision of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights without discrimination based on race.

Annie Sykes also spoke about two October 19th events including Kings of Cookin’ Black Family Reunion at Quincie Douglas Center and sponsored by Grace Temple Baptist Church – Tucson.

Buffalo Soldiers in Art and History 1860-1888 takes place at The Dunbar Pavilion and is also hosted by Pima County Public Library Kindred Program. The exhibition is a visual presentation of the Buffalo soldiers through artistic renderings by Frederic Remington (15 Sketches) and historical accounts. There will be a costumed presentation by Dr. Michael Engs and André Newman‎ using lectures and slides.

In the second portion of the program, Ryan Pinto from Indigenous Alliance Without Borders came to discuss their Indigenous Peoples Day event which took place on Monday, October 14.

Their mission is to affirm the rights of indigenous peoples, their right to self-determination, their collective human and civil rights, the rights of sovereignty and the protection of sacred sites, and the free unrestricted movement across international borders.
