30 Minutes spoke with Abby Jensen about Transgender Awareness Month and Transgender Day of Remembrance which takes place each year on November 20th. She also discussed recent legislation such as HR 2 in North Carolina and other legislative concerns.
Locally, Transgender Day of Remembrance began with a ceremony at the fountain at Old Main in recognition and solidarity. Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance on November 20 that honors the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence. Additionally, during November people and organizations around the country participate in Transgender Awareness Month to help raise the visibility of transgender and gender non-conforming people and address the issues these communities face.
Abby Jensen is a trans woman, attorney, activist, vice president and general council for Southern Arizona Gender Alliance (SAGA). She’s also a member of the Board of Directors of Equality Arizona and Chair of Tucson’s GLBT Advisory Commission.
